XA and Super ED elements deliver high resolution even at F1.8. XA (extreme aspherical), Super ED (extra-low dispersion) glass, and ED glass elements precisely deployed in an advanced optical design effectively correct aberration. Meanwhile a floating focus system works with these aberration correction measures to maintain the highest possible resolution.
35mm full frame imagery
Precision optical design supports top-quality 4K production with minimum angle of view variation while focusing and axial displacement while zooming.
F4 OSS with extendable zoom range
The SELP28135G has minimum focus of 0.4 m (AF) / 0.95 m (MF) and has extanded zoom range of 42-202.5mm when used on an APS-C or S35 camera.
High speed operation with independent control rings

Superb 35mm full frame imagery
This top-quality powered zoom lens for 35mm full frame format cameras has been created to satisfy professional moviemaking requirements, including the high resolution 4K format. Angle of view variations while focusing (breathing) and axial displacement while zooming have been reduced to an absolute minimum, and aspherical elements work with advanced multi-coating technology to effectively suppress all types of aberration.
Three independent control rings
Independent control rings for zoom, focus, and iris (aperture) are provided for the first time in an α lens, and the focus mode can be switched from auto to manual simply by sliding the focus ring forward so control is maintained at all times. Zoom speed can be precisely controlled over a wide range, with zoom rotation direction reversal capability. All three control rings have been engineered to provide ideal torque for comfortable, responsive operation. Even the pitch of the scalloping on the rings has been painstakingly designed for comfortable, slip-free control.
Quiet operation
An SSM (Super Sonic wave Motor) drive system has been employed for precise, quiet zooming. Focus noise has been minimised by reducing the weight of the focus element group and driving it with a responsive linear motor. Smooth, quiet iris operation also contributes to enhanced usability.
