IBC 2024

IBC 2024 was a busy show, with over 1,350 exhibitors and a reported 45,085 visitors. It featured a range of new products launched, below we have provided an overview of some of the new products we encountered at the show.

Aputure Storm 1200x

The Aputure Storm 1200x boasts a cutting-edge BLAIR Light Engine, featuring a unique blend of Blue, Lime, Amber, Indigo and Red LEDs. While technically a full-colour fixture, Aputure positions the Storm 1200x as an advanced Bi-colour fixture, hence the ‘x’ in its name. This marks the debut of the new x series, with several more fixtures in the pipeline. Despite consuming the same 1440W as the LS 1200d Pro, Aputure claims the Storm 1200x offers significantly enhanced brightness and maintains consistent output across its CCT range.

Sigma 28-45mm T2 Cine Zoom with AF

Sigma showed their development concept lens the 28-45mm T2 Cine Zoom with AF, which is based on the popular 28-45mm F1.8 DG DN | Art. Available in Sony E-Mount and L-Mount, this T2 concept zoom lens features a click-free aperture ring, focus ring with distance indicator and importantly AF. The AF worked incredibly well as you would expect from Sigma, but we wait to see if this will come to market.

Vinten Versine 360

Developed in partnership with some of the world’s largest OB companies, the Versine 360 head replaces the Vision 250. This is an incredibly well thought out and designed head that offers payloads between 0-40Kg. The multi-standard base ensures compatibility with the industry-standard fixings which include 4-bolt flat base, quickfix, 150mm and 100mm bowl removing the need for additional adaptors. The all-metal construction continues to even the low-profile controls made of steel and aluminium. This is a head that will likely out last all our careers.

Sony HDC-P50A

Building on the successful HCD-P50, Sony unveiled the new HDC-P50A. Featuring a 2/3 inch 3-chip 4K image sensor that is the same as the multi-format HDC-5500 and HDC-3500 system cameras. A wide colour gamut including BT2020 and S-Gumut3 allows for easy colour matching when used with existing camera systems.

With the addition of SDI outputs, the HDC-P50A now supports IP transmission using SMPTE ST 2110, which continues to be adopted into the broadcasting and live production industry. The addition of camera control unit connection and the variable ND filter unit HKC-VND50 (optional) further the flexible operation where the camera is distant from the control room.

The optional HZC-SFP5A licence allows the HDC-P50A to directly output in IP using SMPTE ST 2110 allowing direct IP output without the need for additional hardware and a more than capable camera in IP based studios. When connecting to camera control units HDCU5000 & HDCU-5500 and the IP extension adapter HDCE-TX50, long-distant connection up to 10km using single-mode fibre are possible. Connection to the camera control units enables slow-motion shooting up to 4 times in 4K and 8 times in HD.

Canon EOS C80

Gaining deserved attention at IBC was Canon’s EOS C80 the follow up to the popular EOS C70. Utilising the same 6K full frame back illuminated CMOS sensor as the EOS C400, which provides exceptional detail, low noise and a wide dynamic range. You can operate in either Full Frame or Super 35mm modes, but no Super 16mm cropped that is found in the C400. Many cameras now incorporate dual native ISOs, but the EOS C80 takes it to the next level with triple base ISOs allowing you to shoot in a variety of lighting conditions without compromising image quality. Speaking of image quality, you are able to record internally at 12-bit cinema RAW for maximum flexibility in post-production.

Benefitting from Canon’s Dual Pixel CMOS AF II and EOS iTR AFX and built in 5 axis image stabilisation, even the most challenging tracking shots can be achieved.

Atomos Sundragon

Initially announced earlier this year, this was the first opportunity to look at the revised Sundragon LED strip light. Revised with added flexibility and available in soft and hard versions this IP68 rated 2000 lumens light boasts a CRI of 99 and a TCLI of 98. Although this is not a ‘traditional’ light by any stretch of the imagination, this light will certainly add some creative possibilities to the most demanding of shoots.

Accsoon

Accsoon showed their new CineView Master 4K wireless video link with low latency and a range of up to 2.5km. Each transmitter is capable of working with up to 4 receivers or a combination of receivers and IOS or Android devices. Through the Accsoon app these IOS or Android devices can be turned into a production monitor displaying zebra, waveform information and many other useful tools.

SmallHD Ultra 10

The Ultra 10 seen for the first time is a 10 inch, feature packed monitor designed for a wide variety of applications like studio monitors, pursuit vehicles, jimmy jibs and more. The IP45 ultra bright (up to) 2000Nit monitor integrates with Teradek’s Bolt4K and Bolt 6 wireless platforms. This certainly looks like a well thought out, rugged monitor that will meet the most demanding of situations.

TV Logic

TV Logic had 4 new monitors on display, which will be available in the new year. The LVM-096A, LUM-09G, SVM-183S and SVM-243S. The LVM-096A has a 1000 nits JHD panel and is housed in a strong aluminium case with built in v-mount battery bracket and tilting A-frame stand. It will be able to handle signals up to 1080/60P and has all the tools that you would expect from TV Logic. The LUM-096G benefits from a similar case and panel but can accept 4K/UHD images up to 12Gb.

The SVM-183S is an 18.5 inch native HD monitor, whilst the SVM-243S is 24 inches. As with the top of the range LXM UHD models, the SVM range features upgraded waveform monitors and vectors scopes. They can also show 2 images side by side with the relevant waveform and vector scopes underneath and will accept UHD/4K inputs up to 12Gb in turn providing a degree of future-proofing for those predominantly working in HD.

The recently launched LXM-180FM and LXM-240FM could also be seen, these monitors are field versions of the LXM monitors with high brightness and a cage with multiple mounting points, carry handles and a more compact stand suitable for field use.
