Filmmakers First Impressions Of Sony FX9
The Sony PXW-FX9 has been on the market for around 6 months now and to a generally positive reception. In this video you can see the first impressions filmmakers and DOPs had of the camcorder.
"The FS7 on steroids" – Nino Leitner
A few days before FX9’s official launch at IBC 2019, Sony invited eight of Europe’s best filmmakers to a secure studio location. Their task was to shoot with what were then the only functional FX9 cameras in the world and put key features to the test in real-world scenarios.
The filmmakers’ first reactions to FX9 wouldn’t be based on marketing info or product specifications, but shooting with the FX9 just as they would in a normal shoot.
Each filmmaker was given complete freedom to shoot in the way that they felt was best and at the end of the day we recorded their reactions.
They Were Impressed With These Top Features:
- Extremely Shallow Depth Of Field
- High Speed Auto Focus – With Face Recognition
- Low Light Capabilities
- Variable ND
- Dual Base ISO
- High Dynamic Range
- S-Cinetone Colour Science – Resulting In Perfect Skin Tones
Alexandru Don shot amazing footage to explore the narrow depth of field made possible with the FX9’s full frame sensor. Philip Bloom was so impressed by the FX9’s Electronic Variable ND Filter that he felt ‘every camera in the world’ should have it. Uli Mors also praised the electronic VND system and particularly enjoyed how easy and practical it was to use.
