Q1: What’s the best thing you’ve ever watched?
TV – has to be Planet Earth or Africa Film – Leon or the Bourne Trilogy
Q2. Who was your idol when you were growing up or who is your idol now?
I don’t really have any idols, but I respect a lot of people – Nelson Mandela for what he has done over his lifetime, Chris Evans for the way he has handled his career, Simon Cowell for paying my mortgage for the last 10 years!
Q3. What was the first camera you ever bought or used?
The first camera I ever used professionally was the trusty PD150, the first camera I owned was a HVR-A1E, a leaving present from HotCam
Q4. What is your favourite camera and why?
Favourite camera has to be the Canon 5D – purely for its versatility as a stills and video camera, however if the C300 could take stills that would be immense!
Q5. What’s the most bizarre/funniest/favourite thing to happen whilst on a shoot?
The funniest thing that has happened to me on a shoot was when filming a VT with Boyzone two years ago. Whilst looking for our Soundman Steve Bowden, boyzone arrived. The PD asked the boys if they had been mic’ed, which they hadn’t. She then started looking past the 4 boys to some crew and asked "Wheres Steve?" to which Boyzone replied "He’s dead". They thought she was asking about Steven Gately. The boys did see the funny side of this, and she hasn’t lived it down to this day!
Q6. What’s your favourite or worst place to film and why?
Favourite place to film is anywhere that the public can’t get access to. Not because I don’t like the public, but its somewhere that you wouldn’t see in everyday life.
Q7. Who is the most interesting person you have worked with?
Most interesting person I have worked with would have to be Simon Cowell.
Q8. Name one unnecessary item that you cannot do without on a shoot?
One unnecessary item I couldn’t do without on a shoot would have to be bars on the camera. I can operate without them, but they make my life so much easier.
Q9. What would you like to film that you haven’t already?
I would love to work on any show which is based around building, Grand Designs, DIY SOS, Double Your Home. I love construction and seeing a project through from start to finish
Q10. What job would you be doing if you couldn’t do what you do now?
I would probably still be erecting Marquees, not that I would want to be doing that! I love my job.
Q11. What’s one piece of advice you would give to an aspiring Cameraman?
Become a soundman!
