Contract Hire Explained

Top Teks has been offering Contract Hire on camera kits for a couple of years now and for those that have used it, it’s been very successful!  But, a lot of people and companies seem to think there’s a catch! There isn’t J Contract hire is very much like car leasing but shorter term and an option to buy. There are two reasons to use it; if you rent, Contract Hire gives you brand new kit day one, so you know where it’s been, what’s happened to it, and nobody should get the opportunity to fiddle with your set up. In general the monthly rate should be somewhere near one and a half to two weeks hire, so the rest of that month is gratis and therefore profitable. No planning needed to collect and deliver equipment before and after a job. The kits always available because you have it! If you’re unsure what camera to buy and therefore are hiring the same applies, but you can decide to buy the equipment and effectively get up to half the hire cost back against the price of the kit new, so you’ve not wasted money on renting when you should have bought. All figures are disclosed up front, so no surprises. Here’s a brief explanation and some figures………… Sony PMW-F5 with DVF-L350 LCD Viewfinder, Optitek EF Adapter, Sony LA-FZB1 B4 Adapter and the Vocas Shoulder Pad/LWS. A 6 Month Contract would cost £750.00 / Month + VAT ( £173.07 + VAT a week ) At the end of the 6 months you could …………. a)      Return it and walk away. b)      Continue for another 6 months at the reduced rate of £675.00 + VAT per month. c)       Buy it for £13,400.00 + VAT d)      Contract a different camera. The small print… a)      It is subject to status b)      You have to insure it. c)       You pay monthly in advance by direct debit. d)      You have to be a UK resident.   The benefits over normal rental… a)      It’s cheaper than renting on a spot basis. b)      If it fails we replace it. c)       Brand new equipment only you have used. d)      No logistics costs going to and fro from the rental company. e)      Not having to check the settings each time. f)       Always with you for that last minute urgent job. g)      If you decide you should buy it you get half the rental back against the price of it brand new.
