Canon EOS R5: Shooting Times
The New Canon EOS R5 promises to "revolutionise videography." As more information about it's specs are coming out, we will make sure to keep updating you. This week, we take a look at Canon EOS R5 shooting times.
Shooting Times
The EOS R5 offers class leading autofocus along with high resolution and high frame rate video recording options using the maximum width of the full frame sensor at high bit rates. Inevitably this combination of features will generate some significant heat which in turn will limit recording time. The approximate shooting times for the available resolutions and frame rates in 23°C / 73°F environments from a cold start are detailed below.
8K 30P
- Full Sensor Width: 20 minutes
- Full Sensor Width RAW: 20 minutes
4K 120P
- Full Sensor Width: 15 minutes *1
4K 60P
- Full Sensor Width: 35 minutes *2
- APS-C crop (5.1K oversampled): 25 minutes
4K 30P
- Full Sensor Width: not limited by heat *2
- Full Sensor Width High Quality (8.2K oversampled): 30 minutes
- APS-C crop (5.1K oversampled): not limited by heat *2
* 1 Recording stops at 7minutes and 30seconds for high frame rate video. Indicates the time when recording can be resumed immediately. * 2 Recording is limited to 29 minutes 59seconds. Indicates the time when recording can be resumed immediately.
If the camera reaches the temperature limit it is recommended to turn the camera off in order to allow the heat dissipate. Approximate recovery times for a 23°C / 73°F environment are indicated below but are affected by various factors such as ambient temperature, continued camera operation and the selected shooting resolution. The time until full record time is available will vary with ambient temperature.

- 10 minute cooldown gives approx. 3 minutes of recording time
- 20 minute cooldown gives approx. 8 minutes of recording time
4K 60P
- 10 minute cooldown gives approx. 10 minutes of recording time
