Blackmagic Announced New Pocket Cinema Camera
Last week Blackmagic revealed their latest Pocket Cinema Camera, through a special YouTube live stream. The Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K replaces it’s 4K predecessor and enters the market at $2495 (~£2063). Watch a recording of the live stream above for full details. Below we give a quick summary of key features.
Hollywood Look
Promising deeper colours and higher image detail, the 6K BMPCC claims to come with features found on more high-end cinematic cameras. Not only does 6K have modes for feature films and documentaries, but also for more digital content such as YouTube videos and Blogs. It also promises the buyer “ film quality on independent film, music videos, weddings, corporate videos, documentaries and more!”
Higher Resolution
Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K – Full 4/3 4096 x 2160 Image Sensor
Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K – Super 35 Size 6144x 3456 Image Sensor
The sensor resolution is increased from the 4K BMPCC 4096 x 2160 to a 6144 x 3456 native resolution for the 6K model. And just like the previous model, the 6K BMPCC features 13 stops of dynamic range and dual native ISO up to 25,600 for improved imaging in high and low lighting. The new camera also allows for a shallower depth of field thanks to its super 35-sized HDR Sensor.
Wider Lens Compatibility
A big difference between the 6K and 4K models are the different mounts. Whereas 4K comes with an MFT mount, the new model has a Canon EF mount. This, as read on their website, allows the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K to be compatible with the largest range and most popular lenses. Good news for users of DSLR, URSA Mini Pro and the original Blackmagic Cinema Camera.
There are many more things to get excited about for the new Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera which are highlighted in the live stream, and even more to be unveiled at IBC next month!
