This workshop will cover the following:
- Time-lapse
- Hyper-lapse
- Cinefade
Time-lapse is the technique of capturing an event over a long period of time and then condensing it into a much shorter period. It is particularly useful for capturing events that are too slow to watch, such as sunrises or event builds. Time-lapse sequences are frequently used in everything from dramas to news coverage.
Hyper-lapse is the art of shooting moving time-lapses, often over large distances. The results can be used to aid the storytelling, or provide a bit of a ‘wow’ factor.
Cinefade is the first and only camera accessory that allows cinematographers to vary the depth of field in a shot, enabling a gradual transition between a sharp and a defocussed background.
Paul Richardson is a Manchester-based time-lapse and hyper-lapse specialist who uses special 3-axis rigs to create dynamic hyper-lapse footage that is truly unique, giving vast sweeping movements to time-lapses, often over hundreds of metres, in 4K. Paul's presentation will cover the nuts and bolts of time-lapse and hyper-lapse photography. You’ll learn exactly how to and why.
It will also feature the use of
Triggertrap Timelapse Pro which uses intervalometers and delays to allow you to set the interval between shots, as well as when you’d like the intervalometer to stop; either by the number of shots or after a set amount of time has passed.
London-based filmmaker
Oliver Janesh Christiansen will demonstrate
Cinefade; his unique system that enables cinematographers to gradually vary the sharpness of the background in a shot at constant exposure, whilst keeping the foreground in focus.
Cinefade uses a custom
cmotion lens control system to vary iris diameter, changing depth of field. A custom-built variable neutral density filter sits inside a matte box and keeps exposure constant by slaving the filter motor to the iris motor.
The Cinefade system works with any digital or film camera and lens with a range of up to 5 T-stops.
